The Strong Like Mum Story

Hello and welcome to StrongLikeMum!

If you haven’t already, come and join me on the StrongLikeMum Youtube channel, where I add weekly workout to the community to help women build strength and confidence postpartum.

I’m Shakira, and I'm a mum on a mission; to shatter the Stereotype around motherhood, in particular pre and postnatal health, maternal mental health and perimenopause.

During my first pregnancy I was told constantly of all the things I’d never do again. Apparently I’d never be active again, I’d never have time to cook and I’d always be tired, overwhelmed and exhausted and I’d be lying if I said there were never any challenges. I’ve had plenty of times where I’ve felt overwhelmed or that I reached burnout. But, since having my first son, Rio 11 years ago (how did that happen!) and now being a mother of four ( including twins), I found motherhood to be one of the most empowering experiences. 

So I set up StrongLikeMum! Not just a portal for Postnatal Fitness but a method and a mindset that encourages women to reconnect with their confidence, creativity and passions postpartum.

In my opinion, physical wellness and mental health go hand in hand.

I’m a qualified pre and postnatal trainer, peri menopause specialist and life coach. Specialising in bio mechanics and functional training for women.

You might also have seen me popping up on your TV from time to time. Spreading the word around longevity health and sustainable fitness across The BBC, Channel 5, ITV and Channel 4. I also love public speaking and have had the pleasure to work with brands including Warner Brothers Discovery, Adidas Global and Amazon UK.

Part of the reason I fell in love with exercise is because of the positive impact it’s had on my mental health, particularly as a mother. Fitness became a great coping mechanism if ever I felt overwhelmed, exhausted or anxious.

When it comes to postnatal health, the internet seems to be littered with outdated theories. However, by combining my professional knowledge with my personal experience as a mum, I have created a space for women to get all the information they need by a qualified and credible source.

When I’m not working in fitness, I’m usually at home with my 4 children, husband and chocolate Labrador. We love exploring the English countryside and beaches or hunkering down for big family gatherings and some home cooked food!
