The Strong Like Mum Story

I’m Shakira, and I'm a mum on a mission; to shatter the Stereotype of Postnatal Fitness and what it means to be a Strong Mum!

You see, during my pregnancy I was told constantly of all the things I’d never do again. Apparently I’d never be active again, I’d never have time to cook and I’d always be tired. However, since having my son, Rio ( 2 busy but wonderful years ago), I found motherhood to be the exact opposite. 

So I created StrongLikeMum! Not just a portal for Postnatal Fitness tips but a Method that encourages women to reconnect with their confidence, creativity and passions postpartum.

As a Qualified Personal Trainer, specialising in Pre and Postnatal health, I knew I had a head start when it came to understanding what exercises are appropriate at which stage in the postnatal process. It can be tricky to know whose advice to believe and the internet seems to be littered with outdated theories. 

So I began blogging about my story. Combining my professional knowledge with my personal experience as a Mum. I wanted to create a space for women to get all the information they need, not just on what they could be doing, but how to find the time and ways to balance fitness with Motherhood.

Alongside my new partners Rebecca and Korin, I’m currently putting together the The StrongLikeMum Method; a wellness plan which will focus on 5 main areas of postnatal health; Activity, Nutrition, Sleep, Mindfulness and Hydration. Alongside this I’ve been fortunate enough recently to collaborate with some truly inspiring brands to help spread the word of Strong Mums everywhere! Working with the likes of Adidas UK, Refinery 29, Liz Earl Wellbeing, Huffington Post UK, Fitpro Magazine & Women’s Health Magazine with some more exciting projects coming up. My passion is to empower more Mama’s to achieve their goals and I’m so excited to see the word spreading!
